Impact Pillar: Health & Wellness

Community Services Foundation views health as an essential component of housing stability.

We are proud to be one of only 12 organizations in greater Washington, DC to participate in Kaiser’s health cohort for community health.

Case Study

The Community Services Foundation worked with Kaiser Permanente to implement lessons learned and data from Kaiser's Community Health Needs Assessment to understand the impact of chronic diseases such as diabetes on residents in its portfolio.  The Community Services Foundation sponsored a community health fair to provide residents with free A1C and blood pressure screenings.  Over 40 residents participated in the event.  Several residents were flagged for elevated A1C and high blood pressure screenings and immediately referred to their primary physician for additional assistance.

Residents cannot fully benefit from affordable housing if chronic health conditions, food insecurity, social isolation or lack of access to health resources interfere with their ability to work, learn and thrive.

The screenings also help ensure that residents are able to age safely in their homes and avoid costly interventions related to hoarding or other hazards.
